Episcopal Appalachian Ministries  ~  Summer Work Camp

Beginning in 2004, Transfiguration began their travels to St. Paul, Virginia to spend a week at summer work camp in the Appalachian mountain community and the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia.  Participants work with and develop relationships with host families and stay at the EAM Camp at Grace House on the mountain.  Each day is spent in a work related project.  We share common meals, pray and dialogue about our experiences.  It is an opportunity to enter and experience a new culture and meet people from around the country and from Appalachia.

Again this year, Fr. Henry, the Rev. Schelley Reid-Levy, a deacon from the diocese and the Rev. Dina van Klavaren, a priest from St. Margaret's Annapolis were co-chaperone's for a group of 10 youth from the Diocese of Maryland that traveled to EAM for the second time.  The Junior Warden from Transfiguration, as well as other adult parishioners also participated.

UTO  The United Thank Offering is a ministry of the Episcopal Church that provides a way for men, women and children of the Episcopal Church to give daily thanks to God.  The discipline starts in the homes by dropping coins into a special container, known as the "Blue Box".  Some Episcopalians fill a blue envelope, but toward the same purpose and with the same sense of gratitude.  These monetary gifts are used to help others.  Every coin is used to support grants for missions and ministry.  Over 100 grants are awarded each year.  It is the hope and prayer of the United Thank Offering Committee that each year they will be able to respond more fully to the grant requests.  For more information, go to www.episcopalchurch.org/uto .  You may also call 800-334-7626 or email at uto@ecunet.org   To write, address envelope to:  Episcopal Church USA  815 Second Avenue, New York  NY, 10017-4594
